Racetrack Playa

So ever since I heard of these rocks that move and no one knows how they do it I have to say I wanted to see them.  But it took me 3 or 4 trips to Death Valley to finally be able to make it.  You have to drive down a rocky road for like 26 miles.  A 4 x 4 is recommended but later in the post, you will see what I took down there.  I’m a go big or go home kind of person.

So below is what some of the road will look like on your trip out to the RaceTrack.

Drive out to Racetrack Playa

When you come to the TeaKettle Junction just stay to the right or you can stop like I did and take some pictures.  It is so gorgeous out in the middle of nowhere.

So after what feels like driving forever, you will see The RaceTrack in the distance.  This is where I really started to get excited because I knew I was close to finally being able to see it.

So when I got out of the car the RaceTrack is so big and I really didn’t see any rocks.  It was getting late so I didn’t just sit around I got all my camera and headed out to see what I could find.  I did find one rock right away that had a little trail behind it but it wasn’t anything special and I had to really really look to be able to see the trail.  So I just started to wander around which I do a lot.

I ended up walking towards the Grandstand Rock and when I got there I did find some that were more impressive.  But I like to see the best and still wanted more.  In my travels, I have found the more positive I am the more positive things happen.  A guy in a Bronco drove up the road and ended up stopping and walking to the Grandstand also and we started talking and to make a long story short he told me that the best rocks he found were at the whole other side of the RaceTrack.

It was getting dark and I didn’t have much time so we ended our chat and I took off running.  Yes, I said running I do whatever it takes to get to see the things that I want to see.  So running in FlipFlops holding 3 cameras at The RaceTrack in Death Valley is something that I will never forget.  IF someone would have been which me I know that they would have been taking pictures of me.

So I got to my car and drove quickly to the other side of The RaceTrack and got out and found a lot more rocks and some had some awesome trail paths.  I was just so happy to be able to see them.  I had always wanted to and I was a kid in a candy store.  This is so my type of candy.

So I decided to drive a little slower on the way out of The RaceTrack so that I would be a little easier on my car.  But this is one of the signs you will pass on the way to The RaceTrack.  Guess I really never follow recommended signs.  Because I have passed many of these signs on my journey.

High Clearance recommended

Driving the road at night was fun.  Well, I was the only person out on that road.  This picture was taken around 11 pm and the stars were amazing to see.  I wish I was a better night photographer.  This would have been an amazing spot to get pictures of the stars.
