Convict Lake in California’s Eastern Sierra.

So there are so many places to be able to see in the Eastern Sierra’s but Convict Lake is one that is easily accessed and won’t disappoint you at all. One of the things that I thought was so neat about Convict lake is it was created naturally and it is snuggled in a box canyon around 7,583 ft high in the Sierra Nevada. It is located just south of Mammoth Lakes and there is so much to do in that area it’s unreal. I know for me I love going there to do photography but so many people love going there for fishing and camping.

Convict Lake was originally carved out by glaciers, and at up to 140’ deep in some places, it’s one of the deepest lakes in the region. Also, the oblong-shaped lake has water so clear it looks like glass. The photo below shows one of my favorite parts of the lake which is the 3-mile (5 km) trail for hiking which goes around the lake. When you hike, if your anything like me you will want to have your camera ready because the backdrop of the lake is the Sierra Nevada.

If you would like to camp at Convict lake then head to Recreation.gov Most sites are suitable for RVs, but full hookups are not available. And if you are big into fishing there is the Convict Creek that runs through the campground. And the lake is just a hundred yards upstream. Convict lake is also known for having some very large trout. The biggest fish caught in Convict Lake was a 19 12-pound (8.8 kg) German brown, in 1956.
